Amy Inspired is about the aspiring writer Amy and her life. The story follows Amy’s life as a writer/professor. Amy has the desire to be a writer, but has not been published. She has a less than stellar love life. The story pulls in Amy’s family and roommates, but leaves a lot of storylines not fully complete. The story I guess is just about ordinary life, the ins and outs of those one talks to everyday, week in and week out.
I want a story to pull me in and not let me off the adventure until the end! Unfortunately, Amy Inspired failed me in this aspect. It was a good story, but it didn’t suck me in. I really struggled to get through the book. Around chapter 13 the book started to pull me in and I hoped it would continue. However, after a few short chapters of “I can’t put it down” I was back to struggling. I hoped the ending would redeem the rest of the book and give me some satisfaction of finishing it. The ending was sweet, but it left me wondering what else happened to Amy. The ending would have probably been a better start to the story and could be a good jump off point to another book.
The book is published by a Christian publisher. While the book isn’t secular, I think it had some questionable subject matter that made me a bit surprised. It was just random things that really weren’t needed in the story. Maybe the author was trying to appeal a little more to the secular readership.
I was given a free copy of this book from Bethany House Book Reviewers Program to provide a review. My opinions are my own and not influenced by the sponsor.
